| What type of bird is he? |
Today a bird flew into our window and totally blacked out. I felt SO bad for the poor thing, as he was flat on his back but still breathing. I wasn't sure if he was dying or simply passed out. I sat and watched him for a bit, cheering him on to get better and fly away! After a few minutes, he perked right up, but walked over to our porch and made himself at home for an hour or so where he let me photograph him. ( I had a telephoto lens, though, as I couldn't get close!) He sat around and napped, but the dog eventually found him and barked, so he flew away. I was worried that he wouldn't be able to fly, but he seemed to glide away with ease!
I will admit that I am NOT very bird-savvy. Does anyone know what type of bird he is? He has red on the back of his head, polka-dot feathers on his chest, a long beak, and large wings in relation to his body that are yellow on the inside. Whatever he is, there is no doubt that he is extremely cute!
On second thought, knowing he is not a Kiwi, I think he eats insects, out of the ground or trees, based on the size of his beak. Perhaps a type of woodpecker?
ReplyDeleteYou're right, Chris! I asked on Yahoo! Answers and they said he is a Northern Flicker. He's a woodpecker but they eat most of their food out of the ground!
